Higher Heights for America board member Sonya Lockett is a social-impact professional and creative content curator who uses media to drive social change and connect with diverse audiences. She currently sits on the board of the Higher Heights Leadership Fund.
Lockett is chief impact officer for the film finance and social impact company One Community (formerly Good Films). Prior to her current role, she led the culture strategy and social impact consultancy Next Slate, which worked with organizations, brands and influencers to move the needle on issues they cared about.
Lockett previously served as vice-president of social responsibility for BET Networks and executive director of the BET Foundation, where she developed BET’s social responsibility initiatives and created strategies that leveraged the network’s platforms to engage consumers in social-change initiatives. Her campaigns garnered numerous awards, including an NAACP Image Award and the 2007 Emmy Award for Best National Public Service Campaign.
